Our Very Greek Traditions & A Few Superstitions — An Award-Winning Celebration of Greek Heritage

Preserving Traditions, One Story at a Time
Traditions have a way of staying with us. They remind us who we are, even when life takes us far from where we began. Some are simple, like tying a red-and-white martáki bracelet on the first of March, or saying “touch red!” before laughter turns into a friendly argument. Others mark the rhythm of the year: Clean Monday, when families fly kites and share a table of lenten food; October 28th, when blue-and-white flags fill the streets; and March 25th, when we celebrate both freedom and faith.
When I wrote Our Very Greek Traditions & A Few Superstitions, I wanted to capture these moments before they faded. Now, raising my children abroad, I see how powerful they are. I see how stories, songs, and small customs connect them to their roots and make Greece feel close, no matter where we are.
This newest addition to the My Greek Roots series celebrates the gestures, beliefs, and family habits that fill Greek life with warmth and meaning. Through playful storytelling and beautifully detailed illustrations, children can explore the joy behind our traditions and the reasons they’ve lasted for generations.
I’m honoured that this book has received the Story Monsters Approved Award, recognising stories that inspire cultural pride and belonging. But what means even more to me is hearing from families who tell me their children now ask about their own grandparents’ stories.

Our Very Greek Traditions & A Few Superstitions is a book about remembering and passing things on. It’s a chance to slow down, share stories, and celebrate where we come from, one beautiful tradition at a time.
Available now on Amazon, alongside Our Very Greek Easter and Our Very Greek Summer — books that keep our shared story growing.
